About
Heiko Bauer is a young designer from Germany, originally from Nuremberg, and now based in Düsseldorf, where he works independently as an object and furniture designer.
His practice is rooted in material research, exploring how specific materials can be approached in both creative and accessible ways. Simplicity in production plays a central role in his work, while materials are used in their most original and raw state whenever possible. Rather than concealing their inherent qualities, Bauer shapes and highlights them as they are. With an almost naïve curiosity, he approaches materials and objects as opportunities for reinterpretation, seeking to reveal and celebrate their essential character.
His current research focuses on metal. Through experimentation, he creates expressive pieces that balance clarity with sculptural strength. By investigating the material’s inherent properties, he combines precision and imperfection in forms that are both reduced and bold. The concept of balance is a recurring theme throughout his projects: the dialogue between machine-made perfection and the marks left by use and time generates a compelling tension that defines most of his work.
